Why we lowered our SIM card prices

Two reasons.

First, we do everything we can to save you money and provide the best value for travelers who want to use their cell phone – or tablet – without roaming charges.

Second, there are costs to keeping a SIM card active, but talking to our customers we’ve discovered that everyone – from the occasional tourist to the heaviest business traveler – occasionally wants to enjoy a week or two in an exotic hotspot.  We’ve lowered our purchase price by 86%, so you can use a Brightroam SIM card on a short vacation for just $4.95.  Enjoy.   And keep us posted. We’d love to start sharing your travel stories with our blog readers.

Feelin’ Blue

This morning, the LA Times advised Beyonce & Jay-Z’s newly born daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, of a few places she should travel to given her namesake.

While the list was pretty cool (the Blue Hole of Belize looks tropically tempting right about now…), there’s one “blue” spot they missed – Blue Mountain in Ontario, Canada!

We’re sure little Blue Ivy would adore a little outdoor action, whether it be downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, golfing…the list goes on!

With all there is to do and see, it’s quite a different “blue mountain” than those in Australia (which did make the list, by the way).

The most intriguing spots on the list, though, were the Blue Zones – areas around the globe where explorer, educator and public speaker Dan Buettner discovered his keys to happiness through lifestyle; a few of the locations include Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; and Loma Linda, California.

Why are these spots so great? According to the Blue Zones website, they are “verifiable parts of the world where people live the longest and report the highest levels of well-being.”

Sounds pretty good, right? What would make a trip to these lifestyle-improving locales even better? The peace of mind that you could stay in touch with loved ones during your trip, and a Brightroam SIM card is your ticket to fearless roaming world-wide!

After all, why should little Blue Ivy have all the happiness to herself?

A Resolution You Can Live By

We all know that a new year calls for a new you – the better, more productive, less wasteful, more wonderful you. Creating a list of resolutions – short- and long-term goals meant to goad you into being that better version of yourself – gets you off to a good start every January first. But what comes next…?

In her list of resolutions for 2012, Sheryl Smolkin of Moneyville.ca describes the 10 ways she plans to combat everything from lack of productivity to overspending. And resolution number one is to “Pay less for telephone and cell services”.

Makes sense to us – after all, it’s hard to see (but easy to realize after the fact) how much we all can spend on telecom services. That’s why Brightroam strives to save our customers time and money when they travel. Our SIM cards and international cell phone packages are easy to order, even easier to use, and you’ll only pay for what time you use.

So, what’s the secret to saving money when it comes to talking, texting and surfing the ‘net while you travel? Just a little pre-planning, done by ordering the Brightroam product that best suits your needs. The rest of the trip is up to you to enjoy. Shouldn’t travel be about enjoying yourself?

Tell us – what are your resolutions for 2012?

Brightroam featured on Yahoo!

Described as the “unsung hero of the wireless business”, SIM cards have increasingly become part of every traveler’s mobile solution, saving them money and time while they’re away.

Recently, Brightroam was featured on Yahoo! Finance, where Marketing Director Doug Johnson spoke about the benefits of using one of our SIM cards while you travel.

“We have all heard roaming charge horror stories, or even worse arrived home to a mobile bill hundreds of dollars higher than expected,” he says. “Once a SIM card is tucked into your phone, it’s out of sight and out of mind.”

Brightroam can save you up to 65% when you use our International SIM card, and even more (up to 97%, in fact) when using country-specific cards like our Mexico SIM. More good news comes with the fact that our services are post-paid (unlike most other SIM card services), meaning you only pay for the time you’ve used.
